The beautiful City of Boca Raton Florida was originally founded in 1925 and since then has become the largest city between West Palm Beach and Pompano. Boca boasts a population of over 80,000 residents, where about 25% of homes have children under the age of 18.
The city's name has often been mistranslated literally in Spanish as 'rat's mouth', but the actually meaning is understood to be Boca for inlet (or mouth) and Raton for the Spanish word for thieves, Ratones. Therefore the city's name actually means 'Thieves Inlet'.
Boca Raton started appearing on maps in the 1700s, originally assigned to Biscayne Bay in Miami and the name either purposely or accidentally was moved North to the area of the Boca Inlet where it was eventually adopted or assigned to the city we know today as Boca Raton.
